In this article, I will explain the metaphysics (the branch of philosophy which studies the essence/being of reality) of any paranormal phenomenon. My goal is to dissuade you from investing years of your life studying and researching such phenomena. If you get distracted with studying paranormal phenomena, you won’t be able to realize that you are Consciousness itself.
The Fundamental Teaching of Non-Duality
The main teaching of non-duality and mysticism is that you are Consciousness, that reality is your own Mind. The metaphysical basis of any phenomenon is the same: Consciousness. This means that a flower and a fly have the same metaphysical basis as a ghost, a vampire or a werewolf etc. To be clear, I don’t believe in ghosts, vampires and werewolves, but even if I were to encounter one of these fantastic creatures I wouldn’t skip a beat or be surprised because I know that they would be Consciousness, just like everything else in the entire cosmos. Once you realize that reality is Consciousness, the paranormal will lose its fascination.
Reality is composed of “light”. You are “light”, the substance that constitutes any possible dream, the substance that gives life to this magnificent show we call existence. If you continue to be distracted by the images created by “light”, you won’t be able to realize that you are the “light” itself.
The Dream-Like Nature of Reality
Imagine waking up in hell tomorrow. In this scenario, the hell you imagine – the devils, demons, torture machines – are nothing but your own Consciousness. Precisely because reality is a dream, there is no real metaphysical difference between this hypothetical scenario and the reality you’re experiencing at this very moment.
Both are Consciousness. It’s from this understanding—the realization that there is nothing beyond your own consciousness—that you are able to comprehend the ultimate irrationality of fear. You are not just the body you’ve identified with at this moment; you are the Consciousness that constitutes any phenomenal appearance, including your own body. Why would you fear anything if you realized that you are the substance which constitutes the fabric of reality itself?
This reasoning also applies to the opposite scenario. If tomorrow you wake up in your perfect description of Heaven, this scenario is still nothing but your own mind. Try observing your hand for a moment and reflect on the fact that this hand is consciousness. Everything around you is consciousness. Reality is made up of mind. The reality you believe to be material is your own mind. Therefore, any phenomenon you can interact with, be it an alien or a gnome, is nothing but your own mind.
The Nature of Consciousness
It doesn’t matter if during meditation you experience a blue light in your inner vision. It doesn’t matter if the figure of Jesus materializes in your room. It doesn’t matter if a Hindu deity materializes in your room. It doesn’t matter if you’re abducted by aliens. It doesn’t matter if you encounter a gnome while hiking in the mountains. All these phenomena are nothing but your own Consciousness.
Once you truly understand this, reality will cease to be an incomprehensible mystery. Reality is infinite imagination, and any phenomenon has the potential to exist. But I invite you once again to reflect on the fact that any phenomenon is Mind.
The Importance of Overcoming the Fascination With the Paranormal
Everything around you is as fantastic as your wildest dreams. That’s why it’s completely useless to invest years and years of your life studying paranormal phenomena. The fundamental philosophical question is “What am I?” and if you don’t adequately answer this question, you’ll continue to be confused about the metaphysical basis of reality. Precisely because the metaphysical basis of reality is your own Consciousness, you are the “light” that constitutes any phenomenal appearance.
There is one thing worth knowing, and that thing is You. The most important question you can answer is “What am I?”. By directly answering this question, you will no longer be confused from a metaphysical point of view. Reality will cease to be an incomprehensible mystery. Any type of dream and phenomenal appearance has the potential to exist, but I invite you not to get lost in the content of the dream.
Once you’ve realized that life is the actualization of God’s infinite creative potential, you’ll be busy making the most of this incredible gift that is life, instead of wasting time with the paranormal.
